Biografia

 
Giancarlo Neri è nato a Napoli nel 1955. Nel 1978 si è trasferito a New York dove ha studiato alla Art Students League ed ha vissuto fino al 1996. La prima mostra personale è alla Kornblee Gallery di New York nel 1983. Dopo gli inizi come pittore si è dedicato alla realizzazione di installazioni site-specific di grandi dimensioni negli U.S.A., in Sud America ed in Europa. Tra le opere recenti più note due installazioni realizzate a Roma come “Lo Scrittore” a Villa Ada nel 2003 (poi a Londra nel 2005 e ora in esposizione permanente alla Villa Reale di Monza) e “Massimo Silenzio” al Circo Massimo nel 2007, poi replicata a Madrid (2008), Dubai (2009) e a Rio de Janeiro nel 2012. Attualmente vive e lavora a Roma.
 
Giancarlo Neri was born in Naples in 1955. He began his career in the United States after having moved there in 1978. He studied painting and sculpture at New York’s “Art Students League” and had his first solo gallery show at the Kornblee Gallery in 1983. After having exhibited his paintings in Italy for Stefania Miscetti in 1986, he dedicated most of his artistic efforts to large-scale installations in the USA, Brazil and Europe. Among his works: Lo Scrittore/The Writer, a desk with a 10-metre-high chair displayed in the park of Rome’s Villa Ada in 2003 and later in London’s Hampstead Heath Park in 2005 (it is now on permanent exhibit at the Villa Reale in Monza, Italy); Massimo Silenzio, created in 2007 with 10,000 round light bulbs arranged on the lawn of Rome’s Circus Maximus and later duplicated in Madrid (2008), Dubai (2009) and Rio de Janeiro (2012). He lives and works in Rome.
